N-VA also approves Paris climate agreement
The European Parliament has approved the Paris climate agreement, and the four N-VA MEPs are also lending their support to this historic agreement. Mark Demesmaeker emphasises the importance of this: “The Paris climate agreement is the first legally-binding climate agreement and aims to limit the warming of the planet to well below 2 °C. The EU already has a package of measures ready to increase efforts in the fields of emissions reduction, renewable energy and energy efficiency by 2030.”
“Together with loss of biodiversity and scarcity of raw materials, climate change is one of the biggest global challenges,” says Mark Demesmaeker. “For years now, Europe has been a leading player in the fight against climate change, but it’s not enough just to set a good example. Clearly, the EU can’t solve the problem on its own, and we need allies. The fact that the USA and China recently ratified the climate agreement is a signal of the utmost importance.”
Flemish commitment as well
The N-VA wishes to combine economic growth and well-being with a low-carbon economy. “That means us making sustainable, efficient and effective choices that we can keep up year after year after year,” Mark Demesmaeker says. “The initiative by Flemish Minister-President Geert Bourgeois for a Flemish climate and energy summit is proof of our commitment.”
